Music on the Corner: The Organ: Another Marvelous Machine

Stephen Williams, musician at Nativity Cathedral in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, brings a variety of music from around the world to the organ of St. John’s. Works include music of Nicolaus Bruhns, short works of 15th century Iberian composers, a chorale sonata by Gustav Merkel, one of César Franck’s Six Pieces (highlighting the 200th anniversary of his birth), an impression of Mozart by Zsolt Gárdonyi, Joseph Jongen’s ‘Sonata Eroïca’, spiritual settings by Brit pianist and composer Ian Farrington, and movements from Louis Vierne’s Sixth Organ Symphony. This concert is co-sponsored by the Roanoke Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
