Listen for the Spirit: Journey Groups are Back!

On January 14, journey groups return (some never left!), and as we move through Lent to Easter and Pentecost, we rediscover the connections between inspiration, creativity, commandment and resurrection.

How do we find balance? What do the Commandments mean in today’s world? How can we express our faith in words or art? How do we listen for the spirit’s call? What is a crozier?

January through May, as we move from the quiet of Advent and the joy of Christmas, through Epiphany into Lent, the celebration of the Resurrection and the mysticism of Pentecost, we’ll explore these seasons of the liturgical and spiritual year in our own lives as well as in the life of the church.

Journey groups are returning! Some are continuing from the fall semester: Knitting (led by Anne Krogenes), Writing our Faith (Cara Modisett) and Faith and Fun (the staff of the Child Care Center). Others are new: Living with Loss, led by Sandra Philips; the Letters of John, moderated by Hans and Dianne Brings; Recovery, Community and Hope, led by psychiatrists Cheri and David Hartman; Finding Balance, Living with Purpose, led by Mike and Jennifer Leigh; and a book group led by Jennifer Berenson, reading Brené Brown’s The Gifts of Imperfection.

Journey groups give us a chance to get to know each other, and our selves, better in small group settings – and at the same time pursue a range of other classes focusing on spirit, call and personal faith.

Our Lenten series will explore the Ten Commandments, and the Reverend Eric Long will also be offering his Explorers class – not just for folks interested in confirmation or baptism, but for anyone in the church wanting to know more about the Episcopal church. The Reverend David Olson will lead a series on sanctification in May, and in between there are lots of options for exploring our faith, in everything from Shakespeare to art projects.
