Have you seen our new child care center?

Nearly 30 volunteers put the almost-finishing touches on St. John’s Child Care Center in August, fueled by Breadcraft boxed lunches, putting together IKEA furniture, and since then, its staff has been busy!

The new space has its own kitchen - which allows the staff to make better snacks and even dinners (Wednesdays) for the kids, plus creates an easy-to-clean space for art projects. The new space has a separate nursery and two bathrooms of its own, a television for Sunday School videos (Sunday evening’s Holy Moly curriculum includes video, art project and Bible story every week), a new play kitchen and a new Wii for games.

“The space is a lot safer,” says Meredith Harper, minister to children and families. “Everything was chosen with kids in mind.”

The center is taking donations of toys and games. Crystal Fernatt, childcare coordinator, has been on staff at St. John’s for 19 years and also works at Head Start (where she is supervisor of monitoring and compliance and Early Head Start Child Care Partnerships Education Supervisor). She will take donations of maternity and children’s clothing as well. All of the Child Care Center’s staff are paid, professional teachers.

The center is open Wednesday evenings (with dinner for the children) and Sunday mornings and evenings (when it hosts the Faith and Fun journey group).
