This reflection by Lauren Walker is one of a series of videos this stewardship season focusing on the ministries that St. John’s parishioners make possible through their gifts and resources. You can watch these videos on our YouTube channel.
As I reflect on what St. John’s means to our family, two words come to mind: community and belonging.
When we moved to Roanoke almost eight years ago, finding a church was a top priority. Having previously attended very small churches, we were concerned that we may get lost in the crowd of a larger, more established congregation.
We visited every service at St. John’s – each one unique and special. What struck us the most was the sense of belonging and community we felt as newbies – most importantly, we were not lost in the crowd. We had found our church home!
Those two words became even more important when we became parents in 2015. We are so pleased that Eric baptized Cheston, and he is now part of the St. John’s community.
At St. John’s we found a place we can belong and are blessed with a loving and caring community.
